Coolmine U20's kicked off the season with a good opening win against Ashbourne on Sunday 15th Sept.
The U20’s Coolmine are further down the road in preseason preparation and it stood to them. However, despite difficult wet conditions the Coolmine backs ran in five tries though some good handling. The forwards provided the backs with quality ball through a solid scrum, good lineouts and big ground making carries. Despite some rustiness the second try was particularity good where a clean lineout saw the ball moved swiftly through the backs to score in the opposite corner – preseason work paying off.
It was also pleasing to see a clean sheet being kept with good defense right across the line. The squad welcomed a number of new players this year and all contributed to an increase in standard and put in a good performance.
Early days yet with bigger challenges to come but it’s an encouraging start.
