Coolmine and Clontarf meet again as U17s

The Coolmine RFC U17’s travelled to Clontarf on Sunday 6th looking to put some demons to bed from a league semi playoff defeat in Clontarf two years ago, so this was never going to be a dull game of rugby. And from the very first kick-off, this game did not disappoint from both pace and physicality.

Coolmine had to make a very early change as their Pack Leader at 8 Adam Bolton was forced to leave the field after 5 minutes. But rather than rattle this rejuvenated Coolmine squad, the loss of their pack leader spurred them on, with the forwards putting in a massive shift in a very physical contest.

While Clontarf took an early lead, that changed throughout the game and saw them leading 17-14 with 15 minutes left and pressuring hard to extend that lead, some outstanding defensive play to a turnover that allowed James Caffrey to run in a fantastic try that saw Coolmine take a 17 – 21 lead that they worked hard to keep and earn the win.

An all round team effort again by this squad, with particular highlights by Kevinas Jekucionis, Adam O’Callaghan, James Caffrey, Conn O’Rourke, Sean McDonnell, Dominic Ukandu And Daire Kenny to name but a few.
